We invite you to experience the warmth of the Rimrock family - a team that welcomes you as much as we do one another.
Chris McKinney
Head Chef and Owner
Born in Montreal, Chris moved to Whistler in 1998, drawn by his love for skiing and biking. His journey in the restaurant industry began at Teppan Village, where he started as a dishwasher before moving up to tempura and appetizer cook. He also spent five summers working on the commercial fishing vessel Ocean Sunrise, where he developed a deep appreciation for the incredible seafood of British Columbia’s coastline -knowledge that would later become central to his culinary expertise.
Chris joined the Rimrock Cafe as the “oyster guy” and quickly made his mark. Over the years, he worked his way through various stations as chef de partie, refining his skills and leadership under the guidance of executive chef Rolf. His dedication and talent earned him the role of sous chef, where he continued to develop Rimrock’s signature approach to fine coastal dining.
In June 2023, after decades of mentorship, Rolf retired, confidently passing the reins to Chris. Now as owner and head chef, Chris is committed to preserving Rimrock’s legacy while bringing his own passion and expertise to the kitchen, ensuring every dish reflects the quality and tradition that guests have loved for decades.
